Today’s agrochemical companies know that bringing a crop protection product to market is costly, whether you are a multinational chemical company or a startup biopesticide company. Maximizing success and minimizing costs requires a strong development plan that is implemented by an experienced team that actively manages the process, anticipating problems and avoiding mistakes. Ewing & Associates has that experience to help you develop your product.
We adopt the pharmaceutical definition of Product Development:
- Registration (including GLP laboratory and field studies to demonstrate human and environmental safety).
- Formulation
- Efficacy (field trials, similar to clinical trials in the pharmaceutical industry)
Registration

The registration process is well defined; however, there is a strategy behind achieving it. Ewing & Associates assembles the best team possible for your product, managing and negotiating the registration process as it proceeds. Our efforts include defining data requirements or determining data gaps, and providing you with an estimated registration cost. We then meet with regulatory authorities, as needed, to discuss the registration requirements.
Ewing & Associates works to fill data gaps by working with contract labs to design successful protocols that meet study requirements while taking into account the nature of the product and its intended markets. A market assessment study might be appropriate to help define intended markets. We manage these studies, ensuring GLP compliance, to avoid surprises at study completion and unnecessary delays.
Formulation
Proper pesticide formulation defines the effectiveness, manufacturability and market acceptance of pesticides. Product formulation can either enhance or detract from product acceptance because of efficacy, storage, handling, usage or phytotoxicity concerns. Ewing & Associates can advise and make recommendations to make your product as successful as possible in the marketplace.
Efficacy (Field Studies)
Field studies are a very expensive part of product development, so study design, study placement and study management are critical in keeping expenses low while optimizing success. Ewing & Associates is experienced in designing, conducting and contracting studies on more than 200 crops worldwide. Our efforts support internal decision making, satisfy regulatory requirements and promote market acceptance.
